“News as we know them are increasingly under threat from technological advancement, especially with the advent of smartphones”, said Timothy Large-former Director of Journalism and Media Programmes at the Thomson Reuters Foundation observed last week as he coached 13 online journalists on digital media in Gaborone. INK Centre for Investigative Journalism collaborated with Thomson Reuters Foundation to hold a five-day consultative workshop on “Digital Media”, an interactive training programme for media outlets that want to produce strong content that increases their reach and impact. The consultancy programme heldfrom 23 January 2017 to 27 January 2017, drilled journalists on strategies to identify the needs of audiences; use of appropriate digital content using range of technologies, including smartphones; and ways in which media houses can package and distribute digital news effectively. INK Centre said hosting such a high impact workshop is realisation that the media needs to change the way it produces its news and embrace a paradigm shift from traditional media to digital.
