INK Centre held a half-day Town hall meeting in Mogoditshane near Gaborone to discuss ways in which the government could adopt a multisectoral approach to fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

The meeting, first of its kind, targeted health officials in government as well as the general public. Around 35 people  – who observed Covid – 19 health protocols and restricts  – were in attendance. The meeting discussed ways to reduce prevalence of the Covid-19 and adopted the multisectoral approach to Covid-19 pandemic that has been used to fight the spread of HIV. Officials from the District Health office were in attendance who promised to forward the resolutions of the meeting to the Covid-19 Presidential Task Force.

The meeting comes after INK Centre held a round table discussion with a local radio station in which participants discussed clean procurement in a time of crisis. The radio debate was meant to acknowledge that the risk of transparency is surging in Botswana. Participants pointed out that the State of Emergency laws allow fast procurement process and present an increased risk for both government and business.
